The Church of St John The Baptist, Seven Oaks

The Walsingham Altar

The Altar of Our Lady of Walsingham was moved to its present position opposite the main entrance to the church in 2008. The image of Our Lady above the altar dates from 1965 and is a copy of the well known image at Walsingham, itself taken from the seal of the medieval shrine.  The altar itself was brought to the church from the chapel of Sevenoaks hospital in 2002. Next to it is a jar of water from the Holy Well at Walsingham. It is a reminder also of the Holy Well of Our Lady of Greatness which once existed in the parish. The parish maintains strong links with the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.  The Walsingham Cell is well supported and there is an annual parish pilgrimage to Walsingham.
